
Minister Nuklutoshi inspects four-lane Dimapur-Kohima road construction
KOHIMA, November 21 (NEPS): Minister for National Highways Nuklutoshi today inspected the ongoing massive road expansion and earth cutting works for four laning of Dimapur-Kohima National Highway. Commissioner and Secretary, National Highways, Himato, Chairman, State Quality Control Board, Wepretso Mero, officials from the NHIDCL, MoRTH and two construction companies, namely M/S Ramky-ECI (JV) and M/S Gyatri, accompanied the Minister.
The ongoing road construction is scheduled to complete within three years. M/S Ramky-ECI (JV) and M/S Gyatri carrying out the construction works in three sectors of the National Highway briefed the Minister that the Dimapur-Kohima National Highway traffic will not be disturbed and that there is no need to worry for the upcoming State’s biggest festival – the Hornbill Festival. They will make the entire stretch of the National Highway motorable before the festival, it was assured.
The M/S Ramky –ECI (JV) carried out construction works in two sectors. One sector of 14.93 kms at an estimated cost of Rs 387 crore while the other 13.72 kms at an estimated cost of Rs 339.55 crore. M/S Gyatri is working on 14.21 kms sector at an estimated cost of Rs 340 crore. So the total length of kms of the three sectors is 42.86 kms at a total estimate cost of Rs 1066.55 core.
The Minister told the officials of the construction companies that they should prioritize quality work. He maintained that the Dimapur-Kohima National Highway was not only the “lifeline” of Nagaland but also neighboring Manipur State and other ASEAN countries. “This is ASEAN Highway number one,” he told them.
“You have to give us the best road and we are happy that you have been carrying out road construction works in a massive scale now,” he said. “My Department will always be ready to extend any possible help as and when you need.”
The ongoing works should be completed as scheduled, he added.
Nuklutoshi also inspected the manpower and other excavators used for the earth cutting works and asked them whether they would be sufficient for such large scale construction works. The officials from the construction companies assured there should not be any problem.
Asked whether there are any disturbances from any quarters, the officials expressed happiness that they have been carrying out their works day and night very peacefully.
Himato also advised the construction companies to speed up their earth cutting works before the next monsoon. “If you cannot finish before the next monsoon, it will be a big problem for the people,” he said. They assured him that they would complete it before the next monsoon.
When asked whether they had sublet to any other parties, Rishinandan, Manager, NHIDCL, MoRTH, said no work was sublet. He is in-charge of monitoring the entire works of the four-lane construction.
