GMS Longwa facing the challenges of education

Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): The Longwa Students’ Union (LSU), in its continuous attempt to bring educational development in the area has once again highlighted the existing problems of Government Middle School (GMS), Longwa village.

The GMS Longwa, according to a press release issued by LSU President Nahlak K, was upgraded in the year 2002 ‘without teacher post.’ While still waiting for the teacher’s appointment from the Nagaland government, the Longwa Village Council and the students’ union managed the school by arranging private teachers out of the village’s household donation till 2009. The lack of support from the government did not deter the students of this school and they appeared ELSC exam (class viii) for the last three years with good percentage result.

However, the GMS Longwa which is the only hope of light to modern education for many rural poor has to be shutdown ‘as of now and herewith’ despite several prayers and request made to the concerned authority. LSU also expressed dismay that despite the assurance given by state governor during his recent visit to Longwa on April 6, 2010 to pressurize the authority to redeploy teachers at GMS Longwa, the situation remains unchanged. The LSU has also stated that Satish Chandra G/t GMS Kongan, Rajen Dutta GMS L/Sheanghah, S.N. Jha-GMS T/Chingnyu were redeployed at Longwa and were under the payroll of GMS Longwa. The union added that Rajen Dutta was transferred two times to GMS Longwa but he denied and even this year he is yet to join the duty.

Therefore, LSU in this connection questioned if there were any authorities beyond the directorate of school education Kohima, minister of school education, DIS and DEO to avail Right to Education (RTE) to the children at Longwa village.
