Govt should immediately step down: NPCC

Kohima, February 3 (MExN): The NPCC today stated that it is deeply concerned with the volatile situation that has gripped the state and the “continued blame game by the NPF leaders instead of addressing the situation at hand since they are all responsible for the past 14 years of NPF misrule that has snowballed into public uprising.”

NPCC, Media Cell in a press release said that the decision of the state cabinet on February 1, 2017 to completely withhold ULB election across the state is a case of ‘too little too late’. “The loss of two precious lives along with many injured, huge damage to public property and the constant fear psychosis inflicted on the people could have all been avoided had the state government listened to the voice of the people instead of confrontation,” NPCC stated.

Respecting the wishes and aspirations of the people, NPCC in all fairness had urged the state government on January 12, 2017 to postpone ULB election to develop consensus. “By disregarding the wishes of the people leading to total breakdown of government has lost all moral responsibility to be in power and should immediately step down and call for early election,” it added.

The NPCC also demands that the state government announce adequate compensation to the families of those killed and injured during the public agitation.
