It is unfortunate that during the festive seasons, incidents such as the 22nd December should happen to the people living in and around Suruhuto designated camp. Suruhuto designated camp, the domicile of the Khaplang group is situated between two khels in Suruhuto Town. This means, anything that happens at the camp can affect the civilians living in that town and vice versa.
Now, The Naga Army of the GPRN/NSCN has been clearly given instruction and regimented from the President’s desk to be confined in their own designated camps and command shelters. It is not necessary to publish in the print and electronic Medias to instruct our cadres in the cessation of Fire. What we do or instruct our cadres, if that can be strictly adhered and can result in good faith is more than enough than to let the world know that we have been instructed to cease fire and act otherwise.
Ceasefire ground rules clearly define that designated camps should be located in a place that is more than Three Kilometres away from the places inhabited by civilians or from the highway.
Now, it so happened that a kid belonging to the Khaplang group fired a shot while keeping vigilance around their encampment. Wonders will never cease as to why he had to fire a blank shot. Insecurity even among his counterparts? Or maybe he was petrified of the dark. But he sure did fire his gun. This led the others camping with him to fire back thinking that they had been attacked. Resulting in firing among themselves, which led the civilians living around the vicinity of the camp to think that the Khaplang group had been attacked by the Naga Army.
No man in their right minds would be insecure even after declaring cease-fire. No man in their right minds would be scared to look at an approaching shadow or at the sound of the blowing winds. But anybody who has an inkling of doubt as to whether he/she is in the right track would be scared of even the sound of their heartbeats.
The 22nd December’s incident has no doubt harassed and mentally tortured the general public. The Khaplang group whose blood has been boiling with the thoughts of warfare even after the declaration of their cease-fire, in order to show that they were extra vigilant started a warpath among themselves.
This clearly shows that some people will never do what they say- Khaplang group declares cease-fire during the festive seasons but goes on a shooting spree among themselves-.
The GPRN/NSCN would like to make known that, no matter what differences we have with our adversaries, we will celebrate Christmas in true Christian manner. And we will do our best to welcome Christ in true spirit by ceasing all hostilities. Thus advising our cadres to be confined to whichever places that they have been assigned to, and that, we have better things to do than go attack the Khaplang group while the world celebrates the birth of Christ.
It is also a humble request to the general public not to simply be swayed by rumours, causing panic, or spread it in the networking world which sometimes results in untoward incidents, or incidents far from truth being published in the media,
The GPRN/NSCN also wishes good tidings to the Nagas during this Christmas. And it is our belief that the birth of Christ this season will also instil new hopes and resilience in our minds as we march forward to new beginnings.
