Imphal’s bio toilets open 24x7 from today

Newmai News Network Imphal | March 22   The 9 bio-toilets installed at the Kanglapat Road in the heart of the state capital, Imphal, have been opened for the public 24x7 from today. This was informed today to the media by Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD), Minister, Thounaojam Shyamkumar.   Clarifying that the bio-toilets were locked for certain period of time, Shyamkumar insisted that it was only following the norms/rules set by the manufacturer. He explained that there is limited use of the bio-toilet during the first installment of the bio-toilet as there is a need for tissue culture treatment. During the time period, the solid waste will be converted into liquid form using the treatment, he added.   In this connection, Shyamkumar appealed the general public not to use soaps, tobacco products and other foreign objects inside the bio-toilets as it will hamper the process of natural treatment.   Speaking on the sidelines of the programme regarding the development works taken up by his department, Urban Development Minister said that the drafting of the 'Building Bye-Law' for the State is under process. 'Building Bye-Laws' are legal tools used to regulate area coverage, height, building bulk, architectural design and construction aspects of buildings among others, so as to achieve orderly development of an area in city and towns, he said.   The department has also ordered required number of dustbins to be installed at various locations apart from construction of public toilets at strategic areas, he added.   Shyamkumar further appealed against burning of forest areas and advocated the conservation of wildlife. Those people endangering the wildlife will be booked under the Forest Act, he cautioned.
