Intimation does not help anyone: Old Nkio village

Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): The Old Nkio Village Council in reply to the news “Beisumpui flays Nkio’s land claim” published on September 4, stated that the "present generation of Beisumpui" must desist from litigation threats rather they should honour what has been honoured from time immemorial between neighbouring villages. “Intimation does not help anyone.”

In relation to the issue, the Old Nkio Village Council in a rejoinder issued by its Chairman Kusap stated: “In 1964 Ms Hainingle daughter  of Mr Luizin of Old Nkio married to Mr Reunim son of Mr Nakam, G.B. of Beisumpui Village. The marriage party was proceeding from Nkio to Beisumpui Old, but it was getting dark because the entourage started late on foot. The bride’s family escorting the entourage requested to hold overnight at the jungle. But it was insisted by Mr. Nakam, G.B. of Beeisumpui that it was taboo to stay in the bride’s village land once start. The party must cross the border of the bride’s village land. The whole entourage crossed Intangki river and halted overnight in Beisumpui Village’s land . The entourage consist of Mrs. Lungdi, Mr. Luizin and Mr. Hangchiam, amongst other from the side of Old Nkio village. The veracity of Mr. Nakam, G.B. of Beisumpui’s statement is unquestionable and that is a living witness to all concern.”

It also stated that it will be pertinent to point out that the "allegation that Nkio village takes advantage of weakness of Beisumpui village, which is not true". Rather Nkio village honours and respects Beisumpui village as its equal.

Moreover, June 24, 1999’s MoU signed between Zeliangrong Baudi and Kuki Inpi reiterate the original land ownership, therefore Beisumpui claiming that as a “mere peace document” is a mockery, downgrading an important event and prove their ignorance, it added.

“It is also simply not true that New Nkio is Beisumpui village land. This fallacy cannot be tolerated. Political case No. 40 of 1921, Nkio village Vs Ngoulong village, judgment passed by J.H Hutton, DC Kohima on 1—10—1921 established that location of New Nkio in Old Nkio village land. The permission was granted by Old Nkio village,” the note said.
