Livestock infertility awareness cum treatment camp held at Ahthibung

Peren, March 21 (MExN): College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, CAU (I), Jalukie conducted a free “Livestock Infertility Awareness cum Treatment Camp” at Council Hall, Ahthibung town on March 20. A press release received here stated that the programme was conducted by expert faculties and students under the team leadership of Dr Tukheswar Chutia, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics and supervision of Dr I Shakuntala, Dean of the Veterinary College, Jalukie, Nagaland.

The programme was funded by ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines, Hissar, Haryana under NEH-Component. 

Dr A Palanisammi, Professor chaired the programme and Chairman, Village Council, Ahthibung welcome the farmers and gave emphasis to acquire knowledge and benefit from the programme through active participation.

A technical session was also held under the program where various topics related to Livestock infertility and diseases were delivered by the resource persons followed by a farmer-scientist interaction. Dr Tukheswar Chutia, Assistant Professor cum coordinator of the programme delivered on “Common Infertility issues in Livestock in Nagaland, its impact and management”, while “Major infectious diseases of Animals  affecting production and reproduction”, “Reproductive problems of pet animals and its management” “Routine  health management of breeding animals” were delivered by Dr Gunjan Das, Professor,  Dr N Bhumapati Devi, Assistant Professor and Dr Sashitola Ozukum, Assistant Professor, respectively. 

Free animal health check up, treatment and vaccination were also carried out during the programme. A total of 74 participants (54 farmers and 20 officials) attended the programme. Reproductive health check up of animals, surgical operation, wound dressing and dog vaccination against rabies were performed during the camp. Vitamins, mineral mixtures, anthelmentics, antibiotics and other veterinary medicines were distributed later to the needy farmers covering a total of 634 livestock.
