Wokha, August 29 (MExN): The Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH), supported by the Lotha Hoho, will organize a public rally on September 2, starting at 10:00 AM from Police Point in Wokha Town. The rally is in protest against the assault and attempted murder of Rhanlamo Kikon, pastor of Yanpha Baptist Church, as well as ongoing illegal taxation, harassment, intimidation, and death threats against the public.
The LYH has called on the general public of Wokha Town, representatives from every Village Council in Wokha District, members of Wokha Town Colony Councils, Colony Eloe Hoho, Colony Youth Organizations, inter-denomination Church Organizations, the business community, and students to participate in the rally. Participants are requested to wear traditional attire. The LYH also appealed to travelers passing through Wokha Town to cooperate and bear any inconvenience during the rally.
Meanwhile, a circular issued by the Lotha Students Union requested all schools and colleges within Wokha district to permit students of Class 9 and above to attend the public rally.
“The rally, scheduled for September 2nd at 10 am at Police Point, Wokha, aims to promote unity and solidarity among the Lotha Community, advocate for the rights and safety of all Lothas, and ensure a secure and peaceful future for our community, free from unabated taxation, intimidation, gun culture, and other forms of violence. As we gather to address current challenges, we envision a brighter future for the Lothas, where our younger generation can grow and thrive without fear of violence, discrimination, or marginalization,” the union said.
It said that the participation of educational institutions is crucial to the rally's success, and believed that their support will significantly contribute to promoting peace, justice, and human rights within the community.
