Monolith at Tuophema village unveiled

Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) Kedahge Gen (Retd) Viyalie Metha today unveiled a monolith at Tuophema village in Kohima district.

The monolith stands to commemorate the public meeting held at Tuophema village on 12 April 1955. The meeting had resolved that “there will be no political organization of international or foreign character in Nagaland.” According to FGN, the resolution was ratified on 27th April 1955 in Naga National Council Meeting at Lakhuti. This monolith as erected by Tuophema village.

Speaking on the occasion, Akho Meru, Homaki kilonser FGN recalled that AZ Phizo visited Tuophema on several occasions. ‘May God prosper the descendants,’ he said.

“Let us talk and stand up as Nagas again today, reliving the memories of the past,” Meru said.

Also challenging the people to stand and praise God, he said the seal of God must be imprinted on the hearts and minds of the people. Many people have still not truly come to God, he lamented. There are many believers but there are very few honest people, he said adding that there are honest people but there are very few truthful people.

There are many learned people but we have very few wise people, he said.

Thepfuselie, President ARC (NNC), Lhouvitsu speaker Tatar Hoho FGN, Ruoguoselie and Khriesiezu also delivered short speech.

The monolith unveiling service was led by Neitho-o Kense while Rev Dr Gelhou Seyie, pastor Tuophema Baptist Church pronounced Bible reading and prayer. Pelevizo Seyie presented a special number.

Tuophema Village Council Chairman Pfuduolhou Kense led the main programme while welcome address was delivered by TVC Advisor Phrenyümo Seyie.

BKK Tuophema BC and women society presented special number. Vote of thanks was proposed by Kevikhe Seyie, Rüna Peyu while Neivituo Sanchu, Pastor Baptist Church Tuophe Basa led mass prayer and benediction.
