Nagaland: 140 new cases detected, 96 traced contacts

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 23 (MExN): The spike in COVID-19 cases in Nagaland continued as 140 new cases were detected in the State on October 23. 

The daily update from the Department of Health and Family Welfare informed that of the 140 new cases, 38 are from the armed forces/security personnel, 4 are returnees/travelers, 96 are traced contacts and 2 are frontline workers. 

Dimapur registered 118 of the 124 new cases, while Kohima had 16 cases, Mokokchung and Zunheboto recorded 2 cases each, and a case each was reported from Tuensang and Wokha. 

Meanwhile, 101 new recoveries were also reported in the State. They include 52 from Kohima, 46 from Dimapur and 3 from Longleng. 

The total number of cases in the State now stands at 8,436, of which 6500 have recovered. The number of active cases in the State is now 1,837. 22 confirmed deaths due to COVID-19 have been recorded, while one death is under investigation. 

As of October 23, armed forces/security personnel constitute 45% of the State’s COVID-19 caseload. Meanwhile, the number of traced contacts has seen an alarming rise, with 29% of the State’s total cases under this category. 21% of the cases include returnees/travelers and the remaining 5% are frontline workers.
