The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) members today paid respect to the departed souls of three former members- T Tali, Imtilemba Sangtam and Thrinimong Sangtam.


NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer made obituary references to the passing away of those former members of NLA and the house observed 2 minute silence in remembrance of the departed leaders.


The Speaker stated that Late T Tali of Kangtsung village was elected to the NLA for 5 terms on various party tickets.


He first joined active politics in 1977 and successfully contested from Tuli Assembly Constituency. He served as Minister of State for Geology & Mining and Civil Administration Works in the 8th NLA and Minister for Transport and Communication during the 9th NLA. T Tali was a seasoned politician who was known for his gentle demeanor and for his commitment to serve his people, he added.


Longkumer said the Late Imtilemba Sangtam served as a Deputy Director in the Department of Employment from 1983 to 1997 and contested the general election in 2003 on BJP ticket and became a Member of the 10th NLA from Longkhim Chari and was appointed as Minister for Cooperation, Economics & Statistics and Evaluation. Late Imtilemba was again re-elected to the 12th NLA during the 2013 general elections.


Making obituary reference on Late Thrinimong Sangtam, the Speaker stated the late Thrinimong was a lecturer in the Eastern Theological College, Jorhat from 1965 to 1972 and was a member of the Regional Council of Tuensang District from 1969 to 1972. He was also a member of the Nagaland Public Service Commission from 1980 to 1986. The Speaker said that late Thrinimong entered into active politics by successfully contesting in the 1987 general election from 52 Northern Chari Assembly Constituency as an independent candidate.


Sharingain Longkumer stated that on their death, the people of Nagaland have lost tall leaders and will be fondly remembered. 


Longkumer said that the grief and sorrow expressed by the House will be communicated to the bereaved families.
