DIMAPUR, AUGUST 30 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan made his first official visit to Dimapur on August 30 where in a meeting was convened with the Heads of Departments and civil society organizations in the DC’s conference hall, a DIPR report stated. 

Addressing the meetings, the Governor remarked that Dimapur may be the smallest district in the state in terms of size, yet the contribution made by this vibrant and pluralistic district to Nagaland in terms of economy is immense. 

Emphasizing on the problem of soil erosion due to unregulated exploitation of the river banks for sands and boulders, the Governor cautioned that if soil erosion issue is left unchecked it would create major problems in future and may even displace settlements and economic activities. He therefore called upon   the public to rethink and approach the water resource management and utilization and steer towards sustainability.

Dubbing Dimapur to be a modern city, the Governor felt the need of modern infrastructures like proper drainage and sewerage system. He opined that Dimapur needs to have proper network of underground drainage and sewerage to keep the city clean. Towards this, he requested the government departments and the citizens to work hand in hand in bringing out a viable solution regarding the drainage matter.   

Describing Dimapur as the educational hub of the state, the Governor  stressed on the need for  focusing on quality education, ensuring the educated youths to be  employable in the job market. He also encouraged all schools and colleges in the state for adopting the New Education Policy (NEP) while informing that NEP 2023 intends for making the Indian educational system more inclusive, flexible and learner-centered, the DIPR report said. 

Expressing concern on the menace of drug abuse especially among the youth, the Governor urged upon the civil societies as well as the law enforcement agencies to go all out against drug abuse and said, "We must do everything possible to stop the inflow of drugs to the state and make it inaccessible to the youths."

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal welcomed the Governor and presented a brief profile of the district during which he mentioned on the need for more flyovers for addressing the issue of traffic congestion.

Civil society organisations representing Naga Council Dimapur, Business Association of Nagaland, Dimapur Naga Students Union, Dimapur Chamber Commerce Naga Women Hoho Dimapur also spoke during the meeting. The CSOs flagged issues including completion of multi disciplinary sports complex, approach road towards cemetery, total lifting of NLTP Act, free interstate trade system, construction of by-pass lane from police check gate, Amar Mill to Dhansiripar and problems of multiple taxation.

HoDs of government departments of Dimapur district also highlighted on the activities undertaken by their respective departments. Earlier, on arrival, the Governor was accorded Guard of Honour at DC office Dimapur premises.
