Assessment of damage underway in Niuland and Phek districts
Kohima, March 30 (MExN): In view of the extreme weather event on March 26 last which affected the parts of Nagaland, including districts of Peren, Niuland and Phek, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and the concerned District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have extended immediate relief to the affected families and communities especially in Peren district while in Niuland and Phek districts, assessment of damage is underway.
The storm adversely affected houses, crops and also caused minor injuries, stated a press release from Johnny Ruangmei, CEO, NSDMA, Home Department.
The NSDMA, Home Department through the concerned DDMAs are vigilantly monitoring and reaching out to the affected families and community.
It also informed that affected families and communities not reached by the concerned DDMAs may approach the concerned circle Administrative officers and report inorder to obtain necessary assistance.
The NSDMA also informed the public to be vigilant as an extreme pre-monsoon weather event may occur in the coming days. In the event of any eventualities public are advised to stay alert and report for any eventualities to the DDMAs.
Meanwhile, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Peren district distributed 220 Tarpaulins sheets to the 10 severely affected villages as immediate relief, stated a DIPR report.
Along with relief materials, medical aid was also provided to the seriously and minor injured persons. There was no report of any casualty so far.
The two assessment teams for preliminary assessment was also immediately dispatched on March 27 by DDMA to Ahthibung and Tening subdivision, worst affected by disaster, to assess the extent of damages and submit a report to the government.
