The Nagaland NGOs Forum (NNF) today held a dedication programme of its working office at Purana Bazaar, Dimapur. The act of dedication was pronounced by Rev Dr Vikheshe Chishi in a simple, solemn function.
In his welcome address, NNF President Povotso Lohe acknowledged the owner of the particular room for willfully allotting the space to them for a period of three years.
He said that the NNF was formed in the year 2018 with a view to forge unity amongst the NGOs and to promote harmony, integrity and closer cooperation between the government and the NGOs within Nagaland.
Lohe said that Forum’s core mission is to look after the welfare and interest of all the genuine NGOs registered with the government of Nagaland through the home department. To this he said, “Though we are few, our purpose is going to be fulfilled.”
Stating that the NNF is the father of the NGOs across Nagaland, he called upon all the NGOs, beginning from the village level to come forward to discuss issues of common interest and work together for the common good and inculcate a spirit of oneness amongst the indigenous tribes of Nagaland. The forum also aims to take up and facilitate different schemes and projects which has been registered with the government of India.
Also addressing the renewal issue of NGOs in the state which is only two years, Lohe said that the NNF is pursuing the matter with the home department to extend the tenure to five years. “With this humble beginning, we hope to achieve many more breakthroughs during this three-yeear tenure,” he stated. Mention may be made that this is the second batch of NNF office bearers since its inception in 2018.
Exhorting the members, Kughalu Mulatonu Yeptho, Advisor to NNF and Representative of the House called upon the NNF to have an extensive view that includes every section of society in a state that is ‘politically and internally divided.’ “In Nagaland, there is a great social disparity. The Naga political movement is so divided and so are the churches and the political parties” he rued.
Stating that the “only non-defecting party at present is the NNF,” he urged the forum to aim for small things to solve first. “When we break one small problem, I believe that it will take us forward,” he said.
Addressing that to change the world, we need to change ourselves first, Mulatonu further supplemented, “If we fail to change, we cannot change society.”
“Let’s find some small logjam where we can put our heads together first,” he added. The programme was chaired by NNF General Secretary Nungsangmeren, while NNF Vice President Vikali A Zhimomi gave the vote of thanks.
