National Seminar exploring Anthropology's role in NE development underway in NU

Lumami, March 19 (MExN): A two-day National Seminar on the topic "Anthropology in the 21st Century: Emerging Areas of Research in North East India and Its Role in National Development," organised by the Department of Anthropology, Nagaland University, commenced today in Lumani.

At the inaugural session, the convenor of the seminar, Professor Somenath Bhattacharjee, highlighted the significance of advancing anthropological discourse within the context of Northeast development. He also introduced the theme of the seminar, providing insights into the diverse dimensions of anthropology in the 21st century.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof SR Mondal, Chair Professor at the University of North Bengal, shedding light on the pivotal role of anthropology in shaping national development agendas.

The first day also featured a series of plenary lectures by eminent scholars such as Prof. Sarthak Sengupta, Prof. Temjensosang, Dr  Dipendu Chatterjee, and Prof. Subho Roy, delving into various facets of anthropological research and its implications for the region's development trajectory.

NU Vice Chancellor, Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, presided over the inaugural as the chief guest, while NU Registrar Dr Abemo elucidated on the seminar's theme, emphasising its relevance in the contemporary socio-cultural landscape.

The two-day national seminar promises to be a platform for robust discussions, insightful deliberations, and the exchange of innovative ideas, furthering the understanding of anthropology's role in the dynamic landscape of the Northeast and its contributions to national development, added a press release from PRO In-charge NU.
