National Seminar on world religions conclude

Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): The Department of Philosophy, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), organised a two-day National Seminar on ‘World Religions: A Step towards Inter-Religious Dialogue’ on February 24 and 25.  

The seminar, sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR, New Delhi), gave academicians and religious leaders a platform to elaborate their critical deliberations on the concept of various religions and its implications to the human existence and society. Dr Xavier Mao of NEHU (Shillong) inaugurated the seminar and highlighted the contributions of ICPR towards education and research.  

In his welcome address, Husazo Epao (Principal of Patkai Christian College) said that in the present juncture, religion and moral instructions have become crucial and should function as the guiding light.  

Dr Xavier P Mao, Dr C P Alexander (Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University, Dimapur), and Dr A Wati Walling (NIT Nagaland) served as the chairpersons for the sessions. Some of the speakers included Dr B C Das (Assam University), Dr C P Anto (Founder-Director of Peace Channel), Dr Venusa Tinyi and Dr R C Pradhan (University of Hyderabad), Dr Saji Varghese (Lady Keane College, Shillong), Dr Salikyu Sangtam (Tetso College, Dimapur), Dr Hitoka Sumi (Gauhati University), H S Ahluwalia Dolly (President of Sikh Samaj, Dimapur), Swapna Behera (Writer), L O Singh (Manipur University), Ahidur Rahman (President of Muslim Council, Dimapur),and Dr M Debbarma (Tripura University).  

A press release stated that participating institutions included ICFAI University, St John College, Salesian College, and Tetso College of Dimapur. In the closing ceremony, Dr R K Behera, Convenor of the seminar and Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences (Patkai Christian College), stressed on the need for inter-religious dialogue in today’s post-modern world where there is a move towards globalisation, and thanked everyone for their cooperation and contributions.
