Observing that there are many new developments taking place whether in the government sector, secular world or the church including new church teachings, Rev Dr Kedo Peseyie, Pastor, City Church Kohima on Sunday underscored the need to come back to the word of God and stand firm in the truth.
He was speaking at the Tsali Nyi Mu Houzha Va 14 (Song Festival & 14th Conference) of the Western Angami Baptist Nhicuko Krotho at Dzüleke on December 14 on the theme, "Faith that stands alone but doesn't stand still."
Addressing the gathering of 11 churches from the Western Angami area, he dwelt on the Baptist distinctives and faith while stating emphasis on the sufficiency and authority of the scripture.
Stating that the 66 books in the Bible are sufficient and authoritative, he stated that, "the Bible is the centre of our worship." "We centre our worship on the engagement of the scripture", he said while highlighting that the Church governance of the Baptist is based on the word of God.
Urging the gathering to stand firm in the word of God, he explained that through the sacrifice and death of Jesus on the cross, God has opened the way for everyone to go to Him.
He further highlighted on two ordinances of the Baptist, which he pointed out are Believer's Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
He also shared the five solas of the Protestant Reformation including Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone), Sola Fide (Faith Alone), Sola Gratia (Grace Alone), Solus Christus (Christ Alone), and Soli Deo Gloria (Glory to God Alone).
Expounding on the five solas, he asserted that they are very important although they are not in the Baptist distinctives.
On how to live one's life and faith, he further shared three things that the congregation could follow. These, he highlighted are the need to have a faith that is clear, a commitment of seriousness and a prayer that is objective.
Other speakers for the two-day conference included Neisewheno Sirie, Mission Board Convenor, Tenyiphe-1 Baptist Church, who spoke on "Living God's plan for creation and relationship" and Dr Vitsoü Yano Tsolo, Principal of Moden College, Piphema, who spoke on the topic, "Online Temptation and the Armour of God."
Highlights of the Sunday service included bible reading and prayer by Diezerovino Khate, Superintendent, BCKNK, greetings by Letso Meyase, Pastor, Dzüleke Baptist Church, special number by Dzüleke Baptist Church and Thejaser Sechü while Viketouto Nakhro was the leader. A singing competition.
