NGRC-ICU supports ‘Chakka Jam’ called by truckers

Dimapur, June 21 (MExN): The Nagaland Government Registered Class-I Contractors’ Union (NGRC-ICU) has resolved to support the ‘Chakka Jam’ called by the Bokajan Truck Owners Association (BTOA) in its general body meeting held on June 20 last, at Hotel Japfü, Kohima. According to a press note received from the NGRC-ICU, while condemning the illegal collection of taxes and extortion, the Union expressed appreciation to the Chakka Jam called by the BTOA pointing out that this had exposed the inefficiency of the government machineries, particularly the concerned district administrations of both Assam and Nagaland.

The NGRC-ICU has also decided to closely observe the response of the State government and district administration to the earlier charter of demands made. It mentioned that the top priority of the union at present was to fight against illegal collection of taxes and extortion. It was also informed that the NGRC-ICU will convene another meeting with the NCSU, NECU, KCCI and business community of Dimapur including the Hardware Merchant Association, Timber Association, Pharmacies Union, Chamber of Commerce, Doctor Private Practitioners Union, etc. on June 27 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima at 10am. The NGRC-ICU has also appealed to the business community not to take the consumers for a ride by raising the price of goods and services in their own in order to make their profits. It observed that the traders had no right to fix prices of any essential or non-essential commodities but to follow the rate given by the competent authority.

The press note also informed that the NGRC-ICU will run its office situated at PWD Kohima as the monitoring cell particularly to collect more evidences/documents. The union informed that it had also resolved to extend the tenure of the present team – the Union Executive Council – for another term and also selected Pfuduolhou to be the new finance secretary. The NGRC-ICU also requested the business community both in Dimapur and Kohima to come and attend the proposed meeting with more evidence/documents and genuine proof such as receipt, demand notice, letter pad, verbal demand.

The NGRC-ICU has also decided to find out as to what extent the tax collected or deducted by the government from the contractors’ bills such as work charge, contract work, contingency, departmental charge, royalty tax, NST, etc., are legal and whether they are being submitted to the state revenues.
