NMA, DYO, WSH laud arrest of alleged drug kingpin

Dimapur, April 1 (MExN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), DAYO (Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation) and Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) have lauded the Nagaland Police for the arrest of one Bahurudin, the alleged drug kingpin of North East.

Reportedly, he was arrested along with his associates from Sonitpur, Assam on March 23.

The NMA stands in solidarity and express their gratitude towards the intelligent joint work done by the Nagaland Police and Assam Police for the arrest, the association said in a statement received here. It further appealed for ‘thorough investigation’ and sought ‘protection from any interference that could derail the process.’  

Nagaland has in the past and presently is facing drug menace in the society for which it calls for common concerns to hand-hold and capacitate every stakeholders to participate effectively and care to protect our homes, children, family and society, the NMA stated. Accordingly, it called for a common voice to respond to the challenge and be proactive and able agents in order to tackle the crisis of drug menace in Nagaland.

In a press release, the DAYO lauded the Dimapur Commissioner of Police and his counterparts for the arrests of the drug kingpin and his associates The efficiency of Nagaland Police and the zeal to root out the menace of drugs epidemic from the State under the leadership of DGP Nagaland Rupin Sharma is very commendable, it said. 

The Organisation also expressed surprise that a leader of a particular community, who is the president of the New Market Jame Masjid Committee and a prominent business figure in Nagaland, was arrested. 

“The accused should be immediately suspended from any responsible post without any excuse,” it asserted. As a social organisation, the DAYO has always stood for and propagated inter communal harmony in Dimapur and Nagaland as a whole, it added. 

The DAYO further maintained that the drugs menace has had a crippling effect on the Naga society for decades. “With the arrest of the kingpin, DAYO urges the police and administration for further scrutiny of the said masjid committee and his affiliated unions,” it said. 

“The DAYO will not be mute spectator to see our youths and students life destroyed by drugs and would like to take this opportunity to call upon all Naga youth organisations to stand united for any eventualities in our common fight against war on drugs,” it asserted. 

It also appealed the concerned authority to ensure that the culprits are given befitting punishment as per the stringent law of the land.

Meanwhile, the WSH has strongly denounced Bahar Uddin, the alleged kingpin of drug cartels in the northeast region, who was recently captured by the Police. “It is disheartening to discover that he held a position of authority as the president of the New Market Jame Masjid Committee, using his influence to carry out illegal drug activities. The devastating impact of his actions on countless young lives is unimaginable,” the Media Cell of WSH stated. 

“The WSH firmly demands that Bahar Uddin be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It is crucial that justice is served to prevent such individuals from continuing to harm innocent individuals,” it demanded.

The WSH also commended Rupin Sharma IPS, Director General of Police of Nagaland, for his strong stance against drug abuse, as well as Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, Commissioner of Police for their prompt and efficient efforts in capturing the perpetrator.

 “Their dedication to eradicating the drug trade is crucial in protecting the community from further harm,” the hoho added.
