The Naga National Council/ Federal Government of Nagaland today observed “69th Nagaland Republic Day” at Transit Peace Camp, Kohima.

Addressing the gathering, FGN president Gen. (Retd) Viyalie Metha said “Let us remember the heroism of our ancestors who courageously defended our country and took the right decision at the right time and handing down the legacy to us.”

He said that the happy life of the Nagas was disturbed by the intrusion of the British when they intruded into Nagaland in 1832 and were consequently permitted to stay “in some parts of our land through verbal agreement in 1879 after heavy warfare.”

He said that when the British Statutory Commission came to Kohima, Nagaland, Nagas refused the British proposal and submitted a memorandum to the Simon Commission in 1929 stated clearly to remain as before.

Gen. (Retd) Metha said that when India was to be given independent, Naga leaders led by A.Z. Phizo went to India and met Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Indian Nation and other Indian leaders of that time.

He said that the Nagas having made their position and intention clear to the Indian national leaders declared their age-old independence on August 14, 1947.

“Then the republic of the Federal Government of Nagaland was formed on 22nd March 1956 at Parashen in Rengma Region,” he said.

In order to internalize her naked aggression on Nagaland and save her face in front of the world the policy of India change and used money to occupy Nagaland and made the so-called 16 points Agreement with some of its servants and some young educated Nagas to form a puppet Nagaland state in our country, he said.

Furthermore, to destroy the Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN), India used some Naga renegades through gun power and money power, he said adding “Thus India in connivance with renegade groups had killed many Naga leaders and continued up to this day.”

Gen. (Retd) Metha appealed the Naga people to refrain from all sorts of evil practice and turn to God and start doing good towards each other as true Christians and avoid embracing the anti-national activities in our land.

“The latest attempt of India is to divide and weaken the Naga nation by constructing a fence in the middle of Nagaland. Where there is no India and Myanmar boundary in Nagaland. The idea is absurd and ridiculous and a crime against humanity,” Gen (Retd) Metha said.

He said that on the part of the FGN “this will not be allowed to happen.

FGN president called upon every right thinking Naga citizen to “steadfastly uphold the rights of our nation and resist such vile attempt of the enemy.”

Earlier, the programme was led by V. Phutoi Zhimomi, N/R, Kilonser FGN.
