NPCC responds to TR Zeliang’s statement on Naga political issue

Kohima, February 28 (MExN): NPCC today demanded that the former Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang should come clean on his accusation that some political elements do not want the Naga political problem to be solved. “He should publicly name those political elements posing hurdles rather than make a vague statement that is detrimental to the overall interest of the Nagas,” NPCC Media Cell stated in response to Zeliang’s statement made during an election rally at Senapati on February 27.

Nagaland, NPCC said, has had enough of NPFs rhetoric about finding political settlement to the protracted Indo-Naga issue. “The NPF leadership which promised political solution within three months if voted to power in 2003 elections seems to be still searching for that elusive promise made 14 years ago. The BJP which is now the NPFs high command also promised settlement with 18 months of coming to power but 33 months had already passed by,” it lamented.

The statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and MoS Home Kiren Rijiju during their recent election rally in Manipur “clearly indicates the mindset of the central BJP leadership that is keen to keep fishing in troubled waters,” the NPCC rejoinder said.

While the plight of the people of Nagaland is getting endless day by day, the NPF government, the NPCC added is simply unable to devote its time and resources unlike their political campaign beyond state borders. “When our own house is in total disarray owing to the divisive politics of the NPF, it is unwise of NPF leaders to simply accuse others of doing the same. The myopic policy of the NPF has isolated Nagas from all our neighbours with whom we had co existed since time immemorial.”

The NPCC also urged the NPF leaders to “atleast put a semblance of governance in the state for the next few months rather than attempting to shift blame on others for all their failures.”
