NPF ‘unequivocally’ endorses TR Zeliang

Dimapur, February 9 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Party today rejected the call for resignation Chief Minister of Nagaland and said that the whole organs of the Party “unequivocally endorsed” the leadership of its President Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Chief Minister TR Zeliang.

We endorsed the stand and statement of the Chief Minister that “there is no reason to resign,” said a press statement issued and appended by all the Central Office Bearers and Frontal/Cell Organisations of NPF Party to “make its stand clear on the demand for resignation of Chief Minister of Nagaland.”

The Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC), Kohima, and the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), on February 7, had served a three-day “ultimatum” to the Chief Minister of Nagaland to step down on “moral ground” by February 10.

Further appreciating the NPF and DAN legislatures for standing firm and united behind the Chief Minister, the party maintained that since the citizens of Nagaland “have given mandate to the NPF party in particular and Democratic Alliance of Nagaland in general to serve the people,” there is no question of Zelaing’s resignation.

The NPF party further pointed out that since the State Government had already fulfilled the demand of the Tribal Hohos for cancellation of the Urban Local Body election, “there is no reason for the Tribal Hohos to continue its agitation against the Government.”

Meanwhile, taking strong exception to the news reports that the “Chief Minister along with 42 legislatures” is contemplating to merge with the BJP, the Party denounced the same as “unfounded and baseless” and asked news reporters to refrain from “reporting such unfounded and unconfirmed report.”

“The NPF is the oldest regional political party in the North East India having its own principles and objectives and as a matter of fact, there is no question of…merging with the BJP or any other political party.”

The Party also conveyed its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families of the two youths who lost their lives on January 31 in Dimapur.

The statement was appended by 39 persons holding different organisational positions in the NPF Party.
