NPF women wing: January 30, 2017 meet was erroneously highlighted in the media

Urges JCC to call off bandh and embark on mission for dialogue with different tribal bodies

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 10 (MExN): The NPF women wing, central headquarters, Kohima said the January 30, 2017 meeting was erroneously highlighted in the media in that the Government had unilaterally abrogated and backtracked from the agreement signed in the solemn presence of the Church.

The statement from the NPF women wing comes in the backdrop of the Nagaland Home Minister bringing out the details of the January 30, 2017 close door meeting held between the Government of Nagaland and the Joint Co-ordination Committee (JCC) in the presence of NBCC along with the full text of the agreement.

The NPF women wing, taking into context the agreement signed between the Nagaland government and the JCC, observed that the government agreed to postpone the elections to the ULBs with 33 % reservation for women for a period of two months subject to the Cabinet and State Election Commission decision.

That the Chief Minister made it clear to the gathering that the he and the Home Minster alone were not competent enough to decide for on behalf of the Cabinet.

That the JCC had agreed to ensure peaceful elections to the ULBs with 33 % reservation for women. That the time asked by the JCC (two months) was agreed upon to enable to let the JCC educate and dialogue with different tribal bodies.

Taking into account that the JCC Convenor had signed the document in the presence of the Church, the NPF women wing on Friday appealed the JCC to immediately call off the bandh that is paralyzing the functioning of the government offices.

It also urged the JCC to embark on a mission to have dialogue with the different tribal bodies and educate the public toward conducting a well-informed election, which will promote development and common good of all the Nagas.
