
DIMAPUR, MARCH 20 (MExN): The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) has expressed serious concerns on Government of Manipur’s “inapt and insensitive way of handing the 30 children from Ukhrul district in Jaipur, Rajasthan.” A press note referred to statement issued by the Director, Social Welfare Department as “shying from responsibilities and obligations toward the state children.” It stated that no tangible steps were taken to secure the children. It added that the statement banked on the Government of Rajasthan’s action. It further stated that the Manipur government and the social welfare department are helpless and unwilling to securing the children.
The note pointed out that the Manipur state police department and the anti-trafficking squad / committee remain indifferent on the issue.
The NPMHR has urged the Government of Manipur to have responsible, sensitive and technically trained officials who act timely. It appealed for the government to formulate effective mechanisms to combat human trafficking and continuously evaluate and urge anti-trafficking squad / committee. It added that the Chief Ministerial Directive should be enacted to improve coordinated efforts and establish executive oversight and accountability for anti-trafficking THE squad / committee.
