‘Our struggle for self-determination will continue’

Candlelight service held in Kohima, Dimapur

A candlelight service in memory of late Bendangnungsang Longkumer, late Khriesavizo Metha, and late Tsapise Sangtam was held on February 9 at the graveyard of Bendangnungsang and Khriesavizo.  

“Our struggle for self-determination will continue whether we arrive to a logical conclusion or not,” said Neinguvotuo Krose, AYO President stressing on the continuing struggle of the Nagas. Our parents and our martyrs have fought to protect and safeguard the Article 371A, with sweat and blood, and this must be valued and respected, stated Krose.  

Delivering solidarity messages, K.T Vilie, Angami Public Organisation (APO) hoped that the death of the three martyrs will bring justice to Naga society. “Through their deaths, may goodness emerge in Naga society, and may the government deliver justice,” said Vilie.  

Organised by the Angami Frontal Organisations, the service was chaired by Dievi Yano, President, Angami Students’ Union while a prayer was invoked by Pastor Zakiebeituo Metha, Immanuel Baptist Church.  

The service concluded with the song “It is well with my soul.”    

Hundreds pay homage to lt Avizo and lt Bendang

Organized by the Dimapur Naga Youth Front (DNYF), a candlelight memorial service was held at Naga Shopping Arcade, Super Market Dimapur in memory of Late Avizo and Late Bendang who lost their lives on January 31.   Hundreds of people from varied strata of life turned out to pay their homage to the two slain youths.

Speaking at the programme, Joint Coordination Committee, Convenor, Supu Jamir reminded that the JCC with a clean mind had entered into the tripartite agreement on January 30 but rued that the state government dishonoured it within no time.  

He asked the police to think about their behaviours and actions and also urged the IRBs to distinguish between patriots and criminals. Supu expressed hope of winning the battle on the current issue.  

Family members of the two slain youths also spoke and expressed gratitude to the various organizations and individuals for their support and cooperation.  

ENPO Vice President, Sashi Naga and Dr. Khekugha Muru on behalf of the Western Sumi Hoho also spoke at the programme.
