Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) on Monday said that it was ‘appalled’ to hear that ‘154 contractual Assistant Professor Post were in process of being regularized,’ stating that it would “jeopardise the spirit of meritocracy among the job aspirants.”
In a press release issued through its Media and Publicity Wing, NLSF referred to a statement purportedly made by a legislator during the recent Nagaland Legislative Assembly session. “Such incongruous statements by Legislator in the Assembly to facilitate the service of Assistant Professor without extending any opportunity to the deserving one through means of free and fair competitive process of examination will only jeopardise the spirit of meritocracy among the job aspirants (Sic),” the release stated.
The NLSF also said that the Legislator’s alleged statement is contradictory and in violation of the principles of “Equality” the Fundamental Rights enshrined under Article 16(1) in the Constitution. “Appointments under the department of Higher Education (Assistant Professor) should at least follow it’s due procedural examination process,” it said while appealing to the concerned Minister to “kindly allow the system of free and fair competition for all the qualified candidates from Nagaland.”
“The Federation also would like to state that the concerned Minister is not only the Minister in-charge of the department but a youth icon upon whom the Nation’s youth takes pride and a role model for many and therefore the duty of ensuring meritocracy lies heavily on him,” the release stated.
Meanwhile, it also said that the Federation, in its quest for ‘Justice for all,’ would not remain a silent spectator to the injustice that is going around; and affirmed its fullest support to Nagaland NET Qualified Forum in its quest for free and fair competitive examination.
