Rio launches 'The Naga Assembly Chronicles'

Kohima, August 13 (MExN): Nagaland’s chief minister Neiphiu Rio today released the first bi- annual journal of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) entitled 'The Naga Assembly Chronicles'.

Releasing the Journal, Rio congratulated the NLA Speaker, officers and staffs of State Legislative Assembly for bringing out the first of its kind journal, which he hoped, would help in disseminating parliamentary knowledge and provide wide publicity of the happenings in the assembly to all the people.

The first edition journal hopes to broadcast parliamentary knowledge and providing a link between the state’s elected assembly and its various stakeholders.

The publication will also serve as a chronicle of events associated with the Legislative Assembly and its secretariat.
The first issue feature brief write ups on the origin of NLA and profile of first assembly.

It also highlighted comprehensive account of the activities of the present assembly session and other major events and activities associated with it.

“It will be of immense benefit to the legislators, personnel of Assembly secretariat and the people at large. Dissemination of such knowledge and information will help strengthen an efficient and healthy democracy,” penned Nagaland’s Governor R.N. Ravi in the journal.

 “It is essential for the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to maintain proper records in printed from because such documentation will not only serve as a sources of information but also play a major role in bridging the gap between the common men and the Nagaland Legislative Assembly,” penned opposition leader T.R. Zeliang in the journal.

NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer stated that the primary objective of the journal is to disseminate information about the NLA and to highlight contemporary issues of interest to the people of the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton stated that the bi-annual journal intends to disseminate ideas and information and to serve as an authentic recorder of important parliamentary and legislative functions and activities.

“I am sure that the publication of the journal will impart more knowledge and information about the altruistic works of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly,” penned Neiba Kronu, minister for planning & coordination, land revenue and parliamentary affairs.

It may be recalled that the first general election to the NLA was held in January 1964.
