SBM-G review meeting for Nagaland held

Kohima, May 10 (MExN): As part of the Government’s initiative to strengthen the Swachh Bharat Mission, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) today held a review meeting on SBM-G activities with Parameswaran Iyer, union secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) GoI in Kohima organized by Water and Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO) PHED Nagaland.  

The meeting stressed on improving the level of cleanliness in rural areas through Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities and making Gram Panchayats/villages Open Defecation Free (ODF), clean and sanitary.  

Uploading on IMIS and problem face by the district of Mon and Tuensang were thoroughly discussed on slow progress of Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) and directed department officials to camp in both the district atleast 15 days each and complete the task at the earliest and declare Open Defecation Free (ODF).

  Speed up of Geotagging, additional emphasis on IEC, release of funds in civil deposit including state share and construction of twin pit also recommended at the meeting.  

Earlier, the review programme was chaired by Dr. Moangwati Aier, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, PHED while status report on SBM-G Nagaland was delivered by Er.Y.Tep, Director, WSSO, PHED.  

The meeting also witnessed discussion on SBM-G with field officers by Temjen Toy, IAS, Chief Secretary, Nagaland and Parameswarn Iyer, Union Secretary, MDWS, GoI.  

So far 4 districts of Nagaland, Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Kiphire and Longleng have been declared as ODF, the meeting also announced 5 more districts to be declared ODF shortly (Dimapur, Phek, Wokha, Peren, Kohima) and remaining districts will be made ODF at the earliest.
