Students visit first settlement place of Tikhir Naga

Kiphire, February 24 (MExN): The Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU) officials along with executives and the representatives from Wapher Village Students’ Union and council visited Taimephu, “the first settlement place of Tikhir Naga” on February 21 and 22.

Taimephu which is located on a hillock at the conjoining rivers of Thurak (Zungki) and Yaye River is about 5 kms down way from Wapher village in the Tuensang District. “Tikhir tribe first settled at this place around 12th century AD,” informed a press release issued by TSU president, S Longkamse and general secretary Temong Y Tikhir.   Giving an account of the place, the TSU release informed that Taimephu, which means ‘bridge over river’, was named by the Tikhir ancestors since they built a bridge over the river to reach out to the other side to fetch pure flowing water. From this particular place Tikhirs moved on to establish new villages namely, Tükhiakiupong, Powong (999 households, below Sekiur Village) and then spread out to the rest of the Tikhir land. The historic evidence here being the leg of a gaur that had turned into a rock which was given as a dowry to a woman named Jonexüshi from the supernatural being on marriage. It is popularly called ‘Longrashi Shuhphi.’

TSU also stated that Tikhir apex bodies are keen towards the historical sites of Tikhir tribe and thus, maintain the uniqueness of Tikhir origin, customs, traditions and factual history.

TSU also inducted its new team with Executive Chairman Y. Shuvin, Executive Secretary Bokti Bosco, Vice President T. Visuthong, Joint Secretary W. Linsushi, Speaker Revenkiu and Literary Secretary N. Vikhianthong.
