Tseminyu Union tells DC to halt issuance of land permits until further consultation

DIMAPUR, MARCH 20 (MExN): The Tseminyu Union has written to the Deputy Commissioner to immediately suspend the issuance of land permits until further consultation with the former.

In the representation addressed to the DC, Tseminyu, the Union highlighted that the land for the establishment of the town was donated in 1966 with assurance that compensation for the loss of forests, farms, and habitation of domesticated animals would be undertaken.  The Tseminyu Union had urged the government to fulfill this commitment, considering the sacrifices made by villagers for their livelihoods.

Considering the grievances put forth by the Tseminyu Union, the plight of the individual landowners was accommodated, where an understanding was made that, all Grade IV posts and petty contract work like earth cutting and jungle clearance would be given to the landowners by the then Development Commissioner of Nagaland, Lt. Lungalang, it claimed.

It also claimed that the land donated for Tseminyu Town's establishment remains the property of the landowners, as it was never sold to the government and expressed concern about alleged “misuse of this land by the concerned authority, depriving and discriminating against landowners.”

In light of the above, the Union has implored the authority to immediately suspend the issuance of land permits until further consultation. Additionally, any developmental activities should involve consultation with and consent from the union and landowners as a priority, it added.

Asserting that it stands for development and welfare, the Union however maintained that fair play and nondiscriminatory practices are essential. “The ongoing issues in the town are attributed to the negligence of landowners, observed over an extended period by the Tseminyu Union,” it added.

It, therefore, urged the DC to ensure the “Union's involvement in all land issuance activities and administrative matters.” Tseminyu Union is committed to fostering a peaceful atmosphere in the town and cooperating with the administration for the citizens' welfare, it said.
