Voter awareness programme under SVEEP held in Peren, Mokokchung

Peren, April 12 (MExN): A district level SVEEP programme on the theme ‘Nothing like voting, I vote for sure’ was organised by office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Election Officer (DEO), Peren at Town Hall, Peren on April 12. 

As per a DIPR report, speaking on the occasion as the guest of honour, DC & DEO Peren Vineet Kumar, IAS underlined the importance of voting rights and the eligible criteria. Stating that voting is a way to express one’s opinion, Kumar advised the gathering to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and practice the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections while exercising their franchise wisely and responsibly.

‘In a democracy, the choice is upto the individual,’ the DC stated and further urged the people to cast their vote for the right candidate, while assuring to give full effort for the successful conduct of the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election. 

Earlier, the function commenced with welcome address by the chairperson, ADC & ARO Peren, Japheth Woch, followed by special song titled ‘One Vote’ presented by Kekudibe Nza. The programme also featured special awareness messages from District Icons, Miss Peren & SVEEP Icon, Kimkhailiu Pamai and Peren District PWDs Icon, Ngaugongbe, while voters pledge was led by ADC & ARO Peren, Japheth Woch.

In Mokokchung, SVEEP inter-college debate competition was held in the Town Hall on April 10. Speaking at the programme, ADC Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe mentioned that the competition aims to educate young voters on ethical electoral practices and instill awareness at an early stage, stated a DIPR report.

Assistant Commissioner Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar delivered a speech on voter awareness, urging everyone to exercise their right to vote, emphasizing how votes drive political and social changes. He highlighted the responsibility of government officials to ensure fair and peaceful elections and emphasized the duty of every citizen to vote.

Participants from People’s College, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung College of Teacher’s Education, Shisalen Riju, and Jubilee Memorial College took part in the debate. Asensor from Fazl Ali College was awarded as the best speaker, while the runner-up team, Yimyatetla Sanglir and Medemren Longchar from Jubilee Memorial College received recognition. The winning team comprised of Sungdienla L Ozukum and Nungsanglila Jamir from Shisalen Riju.

District SVEEP Icons, Supongsangla and Arenlong, encouraged everyone to vote stressing the importance of each vote. EAC Mokokchung, Alemyim Isaac Solo delivered the vote of thanks.
