War against Drugs: Major breakthrough as Nagaland police arrest narcotic drugs kingpin

DIMAPUR, MARCH 22 (MExN): In a major breakthrough in the Nagaland government’s war against drugs, Nagaland police on Friday announced it has arrested a narcotic drugs trafficking kingpin of North-East along with two other associates from different locations.

In a post on X platform, the Nagaland police termed the arrests as a “major successful operation spanning over many months” and made in close coordination with the Assam Police. The kingpin identified as Baharudin was arrested from Sonitpur in Assam while two other associates were arrested from Dimapur and Imphal. 

Baharudin is wanted in multiple known cases registered across the region and has been running a major drug network spread over many states, and involved in financing, procuring, transporting and sale of sunflower, ganja and other dangerous drugs, the NP stated. 

It revealed that the arrested kingpin has been using multiple aliases, multiple identities and multiple phone numbers. Besides, numerous hideouts to carry on the trafficking in narcotics and numerous people have been associated with him in the conspiracies to traffic banned substances like ganja, brown sugar etc in the region, it added. Details are being withheld for operational reasons, the Nagaland police, meanwhile, said. 

Stating that drug traffickers have been creating havoc in the families across the state with large number of youth falling victims to drug abuse, the Nagaland Police has requested people to continue to report drug sellers and traffickers to police and also desist from providing support of any kind to these elements spreading toxin in the society.

The strict provisions of NDPS act provide for forfeiture of properties acquired from the profit of drug trade; anyone purchasing such property from drug dealers are cautioned they must apply due diligence as these properties are fit to be forfeited in due course of time, the Nagaland police highlighted. 

Meanwhile, Nagaland police has thanked the DGPs of Assam and Manipur and its police team for the assistance rendered.
