WCSU cultural prog upholds ‘reviving culture & ethnicity’

Kohima, September 24 (MExN): The Western Chakhesang Students' Union (WCSU) organized its one day cultural programme on September 24 at Naga United Village, Chümoukedima under the theme ‘Reviving culture & ethnicity.’

Imlibenla Wati Nienu grace the occasion as guest speaker. She emphasized on the power of unity among the Nagas and how our culture and ethnicity makes us who we are. Our culture does not only mean the history of our tradition, folk songs and dances but is also about being honest, just and hardworking, she said. She encouraged the youths to preserve and uphold these virtues and protect our culture.

Zasekhoyi Ringa, General Secretary Western Chakhesang Hoho also exhorted the students. While encouraging the students to learn multiple languages, he insisted that it is far more important to learn & speak one's mother tongue to have an identity. Ringa said, Chakhesangs have unique ethos such as "Münga, Maprü & künyi". These three words guide tribe members to be good citizens and maintain coexistance. Such values must be preserved, he said.
The programme was chaired by Rükuvoto Keyho, Assembly Secretary, WCSU.

Kuhusheyi Chotso, Pastor, NUVBC invoked God’s blessing. Welcome address was delivered by Nuvoto Lohe, president, WCSU while vote of thanks was proposed by Vekhosü C. Nyekha, Secretary, Social & Culture, WCSU. Tati Folk Song was presented by Naga United Village and Folk Tune by CSU Seluophe, display of Chakhesang cultural attire by Women Dept. CBC Chümoukedima and benediction pronounced by Khrolhi-u Wetsah, Youth Director, CBC Diphupar.
