Dimapur, May 17 (MExN): 113 Peace Club leaders got together at the Holy Cross Parish Hall in Dimapur on Saturday for a seminar on ‘Clean the Mind to Green the Land’ organised by the Peace Channel. A press release from the Peace Channel Desk in Dimapur informed that the one-day seminar was organised for the Peace Club leaders of different schools in Dimapur region.
Speaking at the inaugural programme as chief guest, Dinesh Kumar, Principal of Hornbill School, Dimapur, exhorted the Peace Club members to protect the environment. In order to protect the environment we need to clean our mind and our attitude, he said, while adding, “We all need an attitudinal change to green our Nagaland.” While requesting all Peace Channel members to be lovers of nature and tradition, Kumar further encouraged and expressed appreciation to the Movement’s organisers for giving a vision for the youth and the society.
Peter Gangmei, as facilitator for the session, called upon the participants to inculcate positive thinking and “have the right attitude towards our nature and land”. He gave extensive information on the importance of environment education, action programmes and various environment issues.
Exhorting the youth, Rev. Fr. C P Anto encouraged the practice of good environmental stewardship in and around the home and schools calling it a vital way to make a positive contribution to the environment. “Our Nagaland is blessed for our environment is not polluted; in order to make our land more rich we need to plant more trees in our homes and school,” Rev. Anto said.
The seminar ended with the participatory evaluation and action plan, and Peace Channel leaders unanimously deciding to celebrate the coming Environment Day by planting saplings in the schools premises and homes. Other highlights of the event included sharing of the activities of different Peace Clubs and a cultural fiesta by various schools.
