
Wokha, March 15 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan chaired a meeting held on the compensation issues pertaining to NH2 with Lotha Hoho, Eloe Hoho, Joint Action Committee, Village Council Chairman of Wokha and Longsa. The meeting was held in the DC conference hall on March 12 and was also attended by SDO(C), JE, PWD (NH).
An update from the DC Wokha stated that in the opening remarks, the DC appreciated the support rendered by Lotha Hoho, JAC and other CSOs, in the mop up exercise conducted on February 12 and 13, 2024. It was informed that at six locations the eviction team had given 7 days notice to the dwellers to decide on demolition or recovery. As a follow up to the notice, survey was conducted and each case was heard by calling the concerned dwellers in the presence of representative of JAC, Wokha VCC and Longsa VCC. The outcome of hearings and formula decided upon for recovery was briefed to the house.
The Chairman of Lotha Hoho remarked that in the interest of future development of Wokha town roads “it will not be wise to allow any recovery but to retain the compensated land by removal of the structures on compensated area. However, to protect the buildings, removal be done manually by the owners themselves.” Wokha Village Council Chairman also supported the removal of structures on compensated area. “Encroachment on old road space/drains etc should be demolished without compensation. He urged for early disbursement of all compensation and for ROW marking to be done from APMC to Hammock Resort,” the release stated. JAC President also “supported to remove the structures on compensated area rather than recovery. Besides, he urged that payment of machinery engaged be done early.”
President of Eloe Hoho highlighted the need for good quality works and maintenance of drains/culverts in town area to ensure preparedness for upcoming monsoon.
The meeting was concluded by taking note of the views, “which shall be taken into account in the final order by the competent authority. “
The DC Wokha also asked the NH Department to speed up the work by engaging more manpower and machinery, R/VV, culvert/drains and other work are to be focused on account of approaching monsoon season, it added.
