Dimapur, February 20 (MExN): Women, teacher animators and students were encouraged to build and promote peace during two events conducted the Peace Channel in St Joseph’s School Niuland and Dimapur’s Burma Camp respectively on February 17 and 18.

According to Peace Channel, the capacity building programme for teacher animators and students of St Joseph’s School was conducted to impart “peace education” and to emphasise the importance of peace in the mind of young.

Resource person Kaka Teresa talks about the concept of peace during the event and said that it is one of the most essential requirements of humanity and a necessary pre-requisite for progress, development and sustainability.

She also motivated the students to understand the concept of peace to transfer the culture of violence into culture of peace.

Teresa further noted that peace was not just merely the absence of war but that it was a situation where individuals or group actively collaborate and co-exist in harmony and understanding despite odds.

Peace can be installed in the young minds by educating the culture of working together, appreciate co-existence, develop non-violent conflict resolution skills, respect for human dignity, religious tolerance and understanding of the world, she added.

Encouraging the students to be a change maker and an agent of peace, Teresa challenged the participants to set “smart goals” which are specific, measurable, achievable, and rational-realistic and time-bound as well as take initiative in bringing peace wherever they are.

A Practicum Peace Celebration was also held evaluation and action plan by various groups. All together 80 students and 3 teacher animators participated in the programme.
