Peren, March 1 (MExN): World Cancer Day was observed in Peren on February 28 with the theme ‘We can, I can’ at Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, New Headquarter Peren.
Welcoming the participants, Dr. Tiala, Dy CMO said that the World Cancer Day is observed worldwide and it’s been observed in Peren District for the first time. She stressed on the point that together we can fight Cancer and how everyone as collective or individuals can do their part to reduce the burden of cancer.
Exhorting the gathering, Zarenthung Ezung, Deputy Commissioner in his speech stated healthy lifestyle is very important and that Cancer is one of the leading causes of deaths. He also stated that awareness is the main tool and it’s the duty of every individual to spread the message and raise the profile of cancer in people’s minds. He said that Healthy living includes happiness which is one of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy life. He called upon the medical department if they could utilize the church platform to create intensive awareness on health issues.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ngangshimeren, Chief Medical Officer expressed his sincere appreciation to all participants for attending the program. He mentioned that World Cancer day was observed worldwide on 4th Feb 2017 but due to unavoidable circumstances it’s been observed on 28th Feb 2017. He highlighted on why World Cancer Day is observed and its significance. He highlighted about the symptoms of cancer, the main types of cancer, the risk factors and its prevention. He stated saying that the main aim is to create awareness and education, to encourage its prevention, detention and treatment about cancer pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action. He also said that the primary aim of the World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death cause by cancer by 2020. He said that currently 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year.
A press release from the CMO office Peren stated that a total of 30 patients availed the services. Out of which 1 person was diagnosed with diabetes and 3 hypertension cases.
