Youth and politics

With the General Election of your state coming nearer would like to share a few ideas for our voter, to begin with how many in our state would be aware that our state Nagaland have the largest population of men & women below the age of 30 this veritable army of youth night swan into several profession but few among them will be need to join the political mainstream for politics still remains a haven for the old, the corrupt and the decrepit at least as far as Nagas are concerned.

In an advance country like USA where 46 years old Barrack Obama was elected in the race for USA Presidency over five years ago & was again re-elected for the second term again. The Young Politicians are in the forefront and have become powerful ruler who rules the world’s strongest power. There is no denying the fact that the youth are technocratic, more global outlook, more comfortable with technology & more idealistic and less ideological, needless to add, they are the fittest to rule the country or state. But the old frogeyes who are extremely wary of the youth will not give up their position of power and pelf, at least in the future, for their patriotism only extend to themselves & their kith & kin.

As most of our leader are in their advance age most of them still continue to change to position of power and would not be willing to put out to pasture as in their unlighted opinion they still have lots to give to our state. Politician again is not an honorable profession in our land and even though some of the young element who are in politics mainly because they are second or third generation politician have been exhorting the youth from various pulpits as a vocation there are few taker for their clarion call.

Even when India had a youthful Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi there were no such enthusiasm among the youth to take the plunge and while a good numbers of young men and women are eager or agitate they have second career option./

The older element in Political Parties should keep the interest of the country in mind and pass on the baton to their younger counter parts, for Nagaland deserves a young leadership to take the future and to turn it into a develop state.

Someone like the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam realized that the our state future lies in the youth and during his presidential years he made it a point to visit our state Nagaland & interact with thousand of our youth infusing in them a sense of patriotism and the need to serve our state or our country. Dr Kalam had predicted that India would be a super power by 2020 and if this dream is to be materialize it is vital that the youth should be galvanized into active and they should join political in a big way.

Even though a vast majority would have to start at the grass root level we can still display our competent and soon assume position of power. We should remember that our state required young leadership more attuned to world politics and more earnest to serve our people and as far as the elders, especially those have long out lived their usefulness, it is high time they hang up their boot & fade away into the sunset (I mean they better retire) and the sooner they do this the better.
