Peren, February 14 (MExN): The Zeliang Peoples’ Organization Nagaland (ZPON) today made an “earnest appeal” to all the people of Nagaland to maintain restraint and resolve the present impasse through dialogue and negotiation at the earliest.
“The whole Zeliang community has always been grateful to the people of Nagaland in general and the Members of Legislative Assembly in particular for choosing one of its sons- TR Zeliang to be the Chief Minister of Nagaland despite Zeliang being a minor and backward tribe in Nagaland,” said a press release issued by Kiezen Zeliang, President, ZPON.
However, the organization expressed sadness to see that TR Zeliang has been “attacked time and again by his political foes for all his policies and political stand without considering any of its pros and cons.” This, ZPON stated, has made them wonder whether the CM will ever get any opportunity to independently take decision for the development of the state without being questioned or criticized.
“It is a fact that for the last two and half years since his taking over as the Chief Minister of Nagaland, there have been several attempts to dethrone TR Zeliang from his chair and today, the Zeliangs are made to conclude that these continuous attempt is because of the fact that he is from a backward tribe which the major tribes still find it hard to accept,” ZPON noted.
With regard to the present crisis, the ZPON made its stand very clear that all issues whatsoever should be settled through negotiation and that all organizations spearheading the demand for removal of CM should shun violence.
The organization further appreciated the intervention of the NBCC and various churches, particularly for praying ceaselessly and taking initiative to resolve the differences through peaceful means without any bias.
“We appeal that the Government and all the tribal organizations sit across the table and negotiate to restore normalcy in the state at the earliest. We are immensely saddened by the loss of three precious lives and pray that no such unfortunate and irreparable loss happens again upon the Nagas,” it added.
