Zunheboto admin crackdown on pharmacies selling banned drugs

Zunheboto, July 27 (MExN): The district administration of Zunheboto conducted joint inspection of pharmacies with the Police and Medical department on July 26 and apprehended some people engaged in sale of restricted drugs like Codeine Phosphole containing cough syrup and tramadole capsule.

Cases have been registered under NDPS Act 1985 against the defaulters while some pharmacies have also been sealed, informed a press release from Shekho Sophie, District Media Officer, CMO office, Zunheboto.

The release quoted Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, Shanavas (IAS) as saying that drug abuse is a serious bane afflicting the young of Nagaland. “It exacts a heavy cost on the society. Besides severe health impact, it impedes the productivity of a section that matters the most- the youth. Let us all join our hands against this menace,” he appealed.

The seized items along with the accused have been forwarded to the court for further necessary action, the press release said.
