R-Day boycott a slap on the face of PDA & BJP govt: NPCC

Kohima, January 27 (MExN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today stated that the total boycott of Republic Day celebrations across Nagaland by the people is a slap on the face for both PDA government in the state and BJP government in the centre for disregarding the voices of people against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2016.

A press statement issued by NPCC Communication Department stated that the entire “Northeast states are in turmoil due to blatant attitude of BJP to push through CAB that is now pending Rajya Sabha.”

“The PDA government in Nagaland has been caught in a self defeating situation where its feeble explanation defies the very logic of our elected member’s ability to protect the interest of our people. PDA Cabinet Decision on CAB is therefore unforgivable and any sensible PDA legislator must resign in protest if they have any concern left for the people, the state Congress Committee alleged.

Referring to the bill as highly polarizing and dangerous for a small state like Nagaland where unabated influx of migrants especially in Dimapur and other foothill areas threatens the demography of state, it cited resenting voices of other regional parties in the Northeastern states severing ties with the BJP at the centre.

“AGP in Assam have parted ways with BJP due to CAB, NPP threatening to kick out BJP in Meghalaya, MNF in Mizoram all out against CAB and BJP government in Manipur passing resolution urging exemption of Manipur from CAB implementation.”

Accusing the BJP party and its legislators of deafening silence, the party added that it “is an insult to the collective conscience of the people.”

“The PDA government has totally lost confidence of the people as is evident from empty grounds during Republic Day celebrations. Congress reiterates our stand with the people of Nagaland in totally opposing the communal CAB and will not allow BJP to roughshod over the interest of the people,” the party affirmed.

The party also extended solidarity with the NSF and ENSF and all their federating units for being in the forefront against CAB and further appealed to all right thinking citizens cutting across political party affiliations to voice out in total unison and prevent the bill.
