NPF seeks justice for six Nagas killed in Manipur

Kohima, August 17 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has demanded immediate and expedited justice for six Nagas who were killed in Manipur, stating that more than three months have passed since the killings without any “tangible action” against those allegedly involved.

A delegation of the NPF, led by its Vice President and in-charge of the Manipur State Unit Vipopal Kintso, along with Vice Presidents Kekongchim Yimkhiung and Angyie Konyak, visited Makhan Village on August 10 and met displaced Naga families sheltered there.

According to the NPF, the shelter currently houses more than 200 people, including the wives and children of the six Nagas who were killed. “It is deeply disturbing that six Nagas, with loving families and children, were brutally murdered and their bodies mutilated to such an extent that it is beyond comprehension how human beings can descend to such barbarity without conscience,” the NPF stated in a press release.

The party said it was concerning that more than three months had elapsed since the alleged killings, while no substantial action had been taken despite the names of persons allegedly involved in the abduction being submitted to law enforcement agencies.

The NPF called for immediate action to bring those responsible to justice. “Unless exemplary action is taken against those responsible for such inhumane acts, people will lose faith in the government and in the administration of law and justice,” the party stated.

The NPF also appealed to the Government of Manipur to extend relief and rehabilitation to all people affected by the continuing social unrest in the state. The party further appealed to the Government of India to “show empathy towards the people of Manipur” and intervene in what it described as the continuing crisis in the state.
