Wokha Forest Division and Doyang Plantation Division organised an awareness programme and cleanliness and plantation drive as part of the Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskaar Swachhata initiative in Doyang on October 2 witnessing participation from 19 local villages, with around 200 volunteers planting 400 saplings.
John Zeliang, Head of NEEPCO Doyang project, underscored the critical importance of environmental protection, likening the planet to a child in need of constant nurturing. He emphasised that the commitment to safeguarding the environment is lifelong, urging participants to adopt cleanliness as a way of life. While initiatives like Swachhata Hi Seva may conclude on October 2, Zeliang reiterated that the responsibility for environmental stewardship is ongoing and unending.
Suman Sivachar, DFO of Wokha, spoke passionately about the significance of cleanliness, encouraging attendees to not only maintain a clean environment but also to cultivate clean thoughts and a clear conscience. He highlighted that cleanliness serves as a form of service to both society and the planet.
Elithung Odyuo, ACF Wokha, expressed his gratitude to the volunteers from various villages and NEEPCO for their enthusiastic participation in the drive. He stressed the importance of environmental conservation and the necessity for humans and wildlife to coexist harmoniously. Odyuo pointed out that many plants depend on animals for germination, noting that elephants contribute to the growth of over 20 plant species through their dung. He called upon the community to refrain from hunting and to prioritise the preservation of the environment for future generations.
