Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): The 80th Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was observed today at Manipur Press Club, Impha West, with Dr. Benjamin Gangmei Senior Lecturer, Dr. Mathew Kamei Asst. Prof. and Pamei Tingenlung President All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AMN) as the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.
The chief guest, guest of honour and president have emphasis the sacrifices and the contribution rendered by Haipou Jadonang to the Zeliangrong community in particular and Nagas in general. Haipou Jadonang had introduced many religious and social reforms in the Zeliangrong Community and he had also laid the foundation of the Nagas Raj. His dream of Naga Raj which he proclaimed that “Makaamei rui Gwuang tu puni”, meaning Naga people shall rule has been materialized. Because the Naga Nationalist movement has been strengthened by successive Naga leaders till today, stated a press note.
It also stated that meritorious awards for successful Zeliangrong Students during the last HSLC, HSSLC, TDC degrees were also awarded as the part of the observance. Where about 20 Zeliangrong Student who were position holders in different disciplines were also participated and received the awards.
The note further mentioned that the ZSUM in its emergency meeting held at Press Club Imphal endorsed the decision of the United Naga Council (UNC) and All Naga Students’ Association (ANSAM) in regard to the creation of Sadar Hills District and Jiribam District.
“The GoM cannot go ahead with the creation of Sadar Hills District until a consensus is arrived among the State holders particularly the Nagas as per the MoUs signed between the GoM and UNC and ANSAM. We are not against the Sadar Hills District provided not an inch of Nagas land is curved out while creating it. In the event of going ahead in the absence of consensus, GoM will responsible for any consequences thereof,” the press note said.
