Kohima, September 30 (MExN): The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) has issued a condemnation of an assault on one of its members, which took place on September 26, between Yakor and Saddle under Shamator district.
In a statement, the ANTA detailed the incident involving C Kiuthrun, a regional taxi driver, who was traveling to Tuensang with passengers on a medical emergency when his vehicle was stopped by unknown miscreants. The assailants, armed with a gun, threatened the driver, questioning his decision to travel through the area despite an alleged "tense situation." Kiuthrun explained that he was unaware of any such tension and was attending to a medical emergency. Despite his explanation, the miscreants attempted to assault him, but the passengers intervened, preventing further harm.
The association expressed shock and disappointment over the incident, stating that such actions are a gross violation of human rights and justice. "This behavior has no place in a just and ethical society," ANTA said, adding that it was unacceptable for such criminal acts to take place, especially against someone performing essential services.
ANTA has urged law enforcement agencies to take swift and decisive action against the perpetrators and to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers on Nagaland’s roads. The association stressed that silence or inaction could lead to further injustices and called on authorities to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
