DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 19 (MExN): In the aftermath of the violence at Indisen village, Dimapur, the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) and the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) have called upon all to desist from such activities that vitiate the atmosphere in Dimapur.
The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) condemned the violence at Indisen village on the night of February 18 where people were injured, vehicles were damaged and shots were fired.
“Such barbaric act has no room in this civilized society,” a press release from the media cell of the WSYF stated, and appealed to the law enforcing agencies to nab the culprits at the earliest and deliver justice as per the law of the land.
“Election is a time to elect the right candidate to lead constituency and Nagas in general and not the time to create violence. The Dimapur-II constituency being dominated by so called advanced tribe should be the agent of change and mouthpiece for clean election as propagated by the NBCC,” it stated.
The WSYF appealed to supporters of all political parties in Dimapur, Niuland and Choümukedima to restrain from such unlawful activities and further appealed to the public to “pray for free and fair election so as to bring change in our state.” Let peace and love prevail in our state, it added.
The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) also condemned the violence and stated that “Indisen village, Dimapur known for peace and harmony was tarnished by some rowdy political party workers on the night of February 18 at around 7:45 pm.”
“When the rule of the land is clear and precise about the election code of conduct, they intruded inside the village jurisdiction where the Dimapur II candidate resides. The Indisen Youth Organisation who are officially delegated by the Indisen Village Council approached them to ascertain their intention and instead were given vague excuses which were devoid of rationality,” a press release from the DAYO media cell informed.
“When the entire state is gearing up for clean, free and fair election such provocation is an act of complete disregard to the entire state of Nagaland,” it added. The DAYO asserted it would stand by the statement of the Indisen Lanur Telongjem and condemned “such act of shenanigans by any groups or individuals.” It further cautioned that such acts “will be dealt with befitting manner as per Ao custom and rule of law.”
Meanwhile, two of the intending candidates from Dimapur II Assembly Constituency, where the violence occurred—Vikheho Awomi and Moatoshi Longkumer, addressed press conferences on February 19 to address the incident. While citing their understandings of the incident, the two candidates called for de-escalation of the situation.
Vikheho Awomi of the LJP (Ram Vilas) hoped that the law enforcement agency would investigate the matter and urged that their report be brought to the public. He appealed to all not to escalate the situation, and hoped for free and fair election.
The NDPP’s Moatoshi Longkumer also called for a stop to the spread of “concocted stories to confuse the people.”
Longkumer informed that his party has filed a complaint with the Returning Officer and hoped that the authorities would bring those responsible to justice. He further urged the Election Commission of India to take cognizance of the incident as it is against the Model Code of Conduct.
