Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio on Saturday reiterated that all the elected legislators are in one accord for a solution to the Naga political issue, and are ready to pave way if solution comes any time.
At the same time, he said, the Cabinet has also decided to go for election if solution does not come before the end of the present Nagaland legislative Assembly (NLA). While ‘some people are demanding for solution, and not election, if the negotiating parties cannot come to a conclusion; if solution does not come before the end of the present NLA tenure, then election has to be held as it is constitutionally mandated,’ the Chief Minister maintained.
Speaking at the inaugural programme of the newly constructed dahou (amphitheatre) at Chiechama village, Rio also said that if there is neither solution nor election, then there will be President’s Rule wherein the state will be directly controlled by the centre, which might not be conducive or healthy for a society like ‘ours’ where most part of the state are still under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
Rio also reasoned, “In the absence of election, the voice of the people will be lost, as there will be no representative to speak on behalf of the people like in a democratic set-up.”
