DNSU raises alarm over rising drug use, calls for rehabilitation centers

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 1 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has voiced concerns about the increasing drug use among youth and students in and around Dimapur, despite efforts by the police and civil society organizations (CSOs) to address the issue.

In a press release, the union stated that, despite its repeated warnings and awareness campaigns, the supply and sale of drugs in the district have continued to rise, posing a significant threat to all sections of society.

The DNSU urged the concerned authorities to take up measures which will further strengthen the effort to curb the menace of drugs and up the ante in the war against drugs in Dimapur district in particular and the entire state in general.

Additionally, the union made an appeal the government to establish rehabilitation centers to assist recovering drug users. It urged both the government and religious institutions, such as churches and prayer centers, to set up counseling and rehabilitation facilities, emphasizing the need for these spaces to educate communities about the dangers of drug use and support those in recovery.

The DNSU also encouraged citizens to report any instances of drug sale or abuse in their neighborhoods to the police, stating, "Together we can combat this social evil." The union assured its full cooperation with the authorities in their efforts to tackle this issue.
