DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): As Wildlife Week 2024 approaches, Nagaland’s Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, CL John, has called on citizens to actively participate in the celebrations, scheduled from October 2 to 8. The theme of this year's event is “Wildlife Conservation through Coexistence,” reflecting the growing need for harmonious interaction between humans and nature.
In a statement issued ahead of the event, the minister highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the state's rich biodiversity. "Let us come together to celebrate Wildlife Week 2024 and reaffirm our duty to safeguard our natural heritage," C. L. John urged, inviting everyone to contribute to preserving wildlife.
The Department of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (DEFCC) has organized a diverse range of activities for the week, including awareness campaigns, quizzes, painting competitions, talk shows, a "Run for Nature," and a sports meet. These events aim to engage people from all walks of life, promoting wildlife conservation. Additionally, informative articles on the subject will be featured in local newspapers.
The Minister expressed pride in Nagaland's achievements in wildlife conservation, particularly the establishment of nearly 200 Community Reserves (CRs) in various villages. He also highlighted the international recognition the state has received for its conservation efforts, especially the protection of the Amur Falcon, a symbol of the state's commitment to the environment.
The Minister encouraged schools, village institutions, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to participate in the planned activities, praising their efforts so far. "Your involvement is crucial in making Wildlife Week 2024 a resounding success," he added.
