KIPHIRE, OCTOBER 1 (MExN): The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has voiced concerns over the challenges faced by the health and wellness centre at Seyochung village, which are adversely affecting healthcare services for the local community.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kiphire, the SVSU noted that the centre is currently staffed by only one Community Health Officer (CHO) and one Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM). This staffing level, it pointed out, is insufficient to meet the growing healthcare needs of the village. The CHO also reported a shortage of essential medical instruments and first aid supplies, with the office-provided resources being inadequate for daily operations.
The union highlighted that Seyochung village, which falls under the Seyochung Additional Deputy Commissioner headquarters, has the highest population in the area, surpassing even Seyochung town. Despite this, the village continues to receive minimal medical support, leaving its population underserved, it stated. In light of these challenges, the SVSU has urged the CMO of Kiphire to consider upgrading the existing health and wellness centre to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in order to improve healthcare delivery and address the needs of the growing population.
